Travel Media:

You can appreciate Washington, D.C.’s true rhythm by taking a walking tour of its museums, monuments, avenues and historical sites. The beautiful capital of the United States is more a city than a state. It’s actually a district that was created by the U.S. Congress in 1790 as a place to meet and discuss governmental matters. It originally consisted of only 10 sq. miles of open space divided by the abundant Potomac River and was simply known as the District of Columbia. After the new capital began to grow, it was renamed in honor of the nation’s founding father and first president, George Washington. Washington, D.C. boasts more free attractions than any other North American city and offers something for everyone.

My favorite American City to visit is Washington D.C. Even if you are not into the history of this great country, there is still a lot to do. I have been there many times, and I never tire of the sights.Epinions User, OhioIf the fresh-smelling air, the crisp, clean, cool spring water, the brightly decorated mountains, the warm beach sands, tranquility, serenity, and the tales to be told by the whispering winds aren't enough to draw you to this place, then nothing will!! Your eyes will behold such splendor and diversity as they may never see again!!What types of environments do you like?...mountains, beaches, lakes, rivers, valleys, ocean, swamps, forests, small towns, or big cities?...there ALL here in Virginia!
